International education is now South Australia鈥檚 top export 鈥� and has become the state鈥檚 first export sector to ever exceed the $3 billion mark.
Figures reveal that international education was worth $3.152 billion to the state鈥檚 economy in 2023.
The export figures come on the back of a record 54,000 international student enrolments in South Australia in 2023.
大象视频Adelaide Chief Executive Jane Johnston said that while the figures highlight the importance of the international education sector to South Australia鈥檚 strong economy, the contribution international students make in the State鈥檚 workplaces and community also need recognition.
鈥淚nternational graduates play a vital role in meeting the skilled workforce needs to support the growth of the State鈥檚 key industries, she said.
鈥淭he top fields of study for international students 鈥� management and commerce, engineering, IT, health, and hospitality 鈥� closely match the critical skills gaps South Australia needs to fill.
鈥淏eyond that, international students spend money with local businesses, volunteer in the community, and bolster the part-time and casual workforce in a whole range of sectors.
